Spring Training – Skin Protection and Sunscreen

Spring Training and Skin Protection

Sheer-defense Spring is finally here! Not only does this mean that the warm Arizona sun is shining, but tis the season for Spring Training and baseball lovers galore. Over ten stadiums across the desert state are packed with devoted baseball fans chanting “take me out to the ballgame!”. Every spring since 1947, Arizona is home to over fifteen MLB baseball teams who participate in the Cactus League exhibition games. These games precede the start of the regular season and can be enjoyed throughout the desert state in Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise and Tempe.

While enjoying the thrill of these baseball games, it is equally important to protect one of the most vital and largest organs of the body, the skin. According to Skin Ceuticals, one of our top skin care products, up to 90 percent of visible changes commonly attributed to aging are caused by sun exposure. To protect the skin from skin damage and aging, it is important to use a broad spectrum sunscreen. A true broad spectrum sunscreen utilizes a combination of sun filters that span the full UVA/UVB spectrum. Unfortunately, over 40% of people never use sunscreen because they either dislike the feel of a sunscreen application or they experience an allergic reaction to these types of sun filters.

Skin Care Protection

Two products that our office recommends are the Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50, as well as the MD Solar Science Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30. The Sheer Physical UV Defense is part of the skin ceuticals portfolio. This particular sunscreen is a breakthrough formula that is light weight, and provides broad-spectrum protection for all skin types, including those who can tend to be extremely sensitive. Not only is this sunscreen paraban free, but it includes two FDA-Approved physical sun filters; Zinc Oxide, and Titanium Dioxide. The other option that we recommend is part of the MD Solar Sciences Mineral Collection. This sunscreen, known as the Mineral Tinted Crème, SPF 30, is infused with ProVention-R antioxidants and leaves the skin with an even finish that appears matte. This natural mineral tint blend is a go to formula that blends in with most skin types and colors. Similar to the Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50, this sunscreen includes naturally derived Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide to serve as sun filters. Another advantage to this particular sunscreen are the powerful antioxidants that it includes. The antioxidants included in this formula are Camellia Sinesis (Green Tea Extract), Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry Fruit Extract), Punica Granatum (Pomegranate Extract), as well as Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C). By the Environmental Working Group, this brand has been rated to be among one of the top broad spectrum sunscreens.

Application of Sunscreen

According to our aesthetics team, sunblock should be a blueberry size that is applied every 2 hours to the face. While enjoying baseball and the warm weather in Arizona this spring, don’t forget to protect your skin by utilizing the right formulas.
