Here’s Why Almost Nobody Does Eye Fillers

There are seemingly countless dermal fillers for every imaginable part of the face, and even the tops of the hands—so why is it so difficult to find a provider for undereye fillers? It’s pretty simple: this procedure is difficult. It requires an equal measure of skill and art. Unlike the lips, temples, cheeks, and chin, one wrong move with an undereye filler and you’ve got an alien effect at best and damage to a nerve at worse. However, Parson Skin Center is a medical day spa where you can find both plastic surgery and non-surgical treatments for all of your needs. If you want to fill in those hollows and bags, it’s one thing to find the rare clinic that will perform undereye fillers. It’s quite another to find the right clinic to get gorgeous results.

The vast majority of dermal fillers are made of a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid (HA). This includes undereye fillers, which are typically performed using a Juvederm product or another product from a trusted dermal filler maker. There are other types of “fillers” that work via collagen induction therapy, but results are not immediate and they are not as easily controllable—both important factors for undereye fillers. An HA filler is safe, effective, and the injector has complete control over placement. Thinking about this procedure? Here’s what you need to know.

Getting Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers last anywhere from 6 – 18 months depending on your body, the amount injected, and the placement site. Eyes are very mobile, so these fillers injected in this area don’t last quite as long as some other areas (such as the temples). However, since HA fillers are temporary by design, this also makes them an excellent tool to play with and test out a look. Undereye fillers can dramatically change your appearance for the better since, as they say, the eyes are the windows to the soul. So, what are yours saying?

The first place many people notice wrinkles and skin laxity on the face is around the eyes. The skin here is thin, delicate, always moving, and doesn’t often get the recommended amount of sunscreen (as people shy away from this area to avoid stinging). This means that you might notice light lines, wrinkles, sagging, and a crepe-like appearance as early as your late teens. However, there’s another factor that ages the eyes: dark circles and hollowness. These cannot be addressed via surgery like an eyelid lift. For this, you need non-surgical intervention.

What Causes Dark Circles, Bags, and Hollowness

There are a few different factors that might cause dark circles, and some people are genetically predisposed. For most people, those dark “rings” are formed by blood below the surface (the eyes are a very vascularized region). If you don’t have enough tissue (read: fat) to cover up these vessels, they are going to show through as a blue, gray, or black circle. The only way to correct this is by placing a filler over them. If dark circles are being caused by skin hyperpigmentation instead of blood, that may be addressable through other, non-surgical means.

Hollowness can also be genetic and, naturally, slender people are more prone to hollowness below the eyes. However, everyone also loses that “good fat” in this area as we get older. Fat can be a great thing, especially for the face. Have you ever noticed that those with a “baby face” tend to look younger for longer? However, dermal fillers can replace the volume that you’ve lost with age or weight loss. Fillers can also literally fill in these areas to reduce crinkliness, bags, and lines.

Getting Ready for Undereye Fillers

If you’ve had dermal fillers in any other area, you know what to expect. There might be some swelling, redness, and light bruising for about one week after the injection. Sunglasses are a great way to hide this, but for the most part many patients feel confident going about most of their daily tasks. You’ll get a glimpse at the final result, but plan on seeing the big reveal about 2 – 4 weeks after injections once things have settled. Movement is great for fresh dermal injections to help them settle, and when it comes to the eyes you probably won’t have to do anything different to make this happen.

You can also take your results to the next level by combining undereye fillers with other fillers. If it’s youth and a refresher you’re after, dermal fillers can lift the apples of the cheeks, give you an Ariana Grande jawline, and restore a more youthful pout all in the same appointment.
