Start Laser Hair Reduction Now, Have Smooth Skin by Summer

Today’s technology means that laser hair reduction can dramatically shorten the time you spend waxing, shaving, and sugaring. At Parson Skin Center, we offer the Candela GentleMax for laser hair reduction, a state-of-the-art system that uses a small device to send a beam of powerful light into the targeted area. Once received, this light is converted to heat in order to destroy unwanted pigmentation—and that includes hair follicles. If you’ve tried laser hair reduction before and didn’t love the results, that’s because you didn’t have the Candela GentleMax at your disposal.

Before we delve into the intricacies of the system, it’s important to understand the difference between laser hair removal and laser hair reduction. The only way to permanently “remove” unwanted hair is with electrolysis. This is a painful, expensive, and time-consuming endeavor in which every follicle is individually zapped with electricity.

However, most people have more than one hair growing per follicle, which means every follicle will still have to be treated multiple times. Plus, electrolysis varies in power and if the strength isn’t high enough the first time, you might have to treat the same hair again. Unsurprisingly, it can take several years to actually achieve smooth skin with electrolysis. Electrolysis can be a good approach for very select clients and sites, such as those who want to work diligently to have nary a whisker of a moustache. But for legs, back, arms, underarms, and even full face? That’s when only laser hair reduction will do.

Lasering with the Candela GentleMax

This laser is designed to destroy the hair follicle located just about anywhere on the body. However, it cannot promise to totally, completely, and forever render you hair-free. Still, many people enjoy incredible results that either let them skip shaving and other methods of temporary hair control or avoid it entirely. If you’re looking to dramatically reduce how much hair you grow, laser hair reduction is for you.

One of the first things clients want to know is whether laser hair reduction hurts. There is always some discomfort with hair removal, including waxing and tweezing. However, the Candela GentleMax has a Dynamic Cooling device to ensure optimal comfort. Most people describe the treatment as a rubber band snapping against their skin, but with the cooling system it’s even gentler. This seriously cools the superficial layer of the skin so most people can’t even tell when the lasering begins. Of course, everyone has different thresholds and some areas are more sensitive than others. There are topical numbing creams available for those who are sensitive or simply want the most comfortable session possible.

Planning for Laser Hair Reduction

Lasering away unwanted hair isn’t a one-and-done procedure for multiple reasons. For starters, the hair grows in cycles. Hair needs to be present in order for it to be lasered. How many sessions you will need also depends on your skin tone, hair color, size of the treatment area, and how many areas you’ll be treating. Those with darker hair and fairer skin tend to see results fastest, but this laser can be used on any skin and hair tone. Most areas will require 2 – 6 sessions for optimal results, and we can give you an estimate of how many sessions you’ll need during your consultation.

When preparing for your session, contrary to popular belief you’ll actually want to shave first. This gets rid of unnecessary hair length while also exfoliating the skin. This means the laser can get to the follicle easier. You do want to avoid the sun as much as you can prior to your treatment, and don’t wax or pluck for at least 4 weeks—after all, the follicle needs to be intact, but there’s no need for hair length. After your treatment is finished, it’s common for skin to be red for a few hours. However, this will quickly subside.

Get Skin You’ll Love

If you start laser hair reduction right now, you’ll start seeing some serious results by spring break with final results by summer (assuming you opt for six sessions). It’s sweater weather and many people are covertly not shaving already, but why not get a (smooth) leg up on summer? Men and women alike spend over an entire month of their lives undertaking some form of hair removal. Get back time and save on those waxing and tweezing appointments with laser hair reduction.

These sessions are quick, easy, and can fit seamlessly into your lunch hour. Let us help you get the smooth skin you’ll fall in love with this winter. Connect with Parson Skin Center by calling the office or just filling out the online form for the quickest response.
