In a recent study conducted by Dr. Eric Swanson, a plastic surgeon in Leawood, Kansas, triglyceride levels were measured in 229 people before having liposuction surgery.  Of the 229 people who participated in the study, those with normal triglyceride levels did not see a difference post liposuction surgery.  However, people with high triglyceride levels pre liposuction surgery, showed a 43% reduction in their triglyceride levels through a blood test administered three months after the surgery.  Compared to those taking cholesterol-lowering medications, that is almost twice the reduction.

For the study, Canadian researchers tracked 24,558 women from Ontario and Quebec that received breast implants between 1974 and 1989 over 15 years.

Over the course of the 15-year study period, they found that out of the women with the implants, 13.2 per cent of the tumours were discovered once the cancer was in an advanced stage, compared to 5.5 per cent for those without implants. But survival rates were similar in both groups.

Considering the popularity of breast implants, the researchers believe it is crucial that long-term studies on the issue continue, and the team at Dr. Parson’s office agrees.
